5 Things I Learnt the Hard Way

Hello there – it’s Abbie.

Today I wanted to share a little peek behind the canvas (and the keyboard). We often share our successes online, but not the detours, the head-desk moments, or the ridiculous errors that taught us the most.

So here are a few things I’ve learnt the hard way as an artist, writer, and overall creative human:

🎨 1. You can’t fix a bad crop after it’s uploaded

Every single time I’ve told myself “oh it’s probably fine,” it’s not been fine. Cropping is sacred.

✍️ 2. Not every idea needs to be a full book

Sometimes a scene is just a scene. Sometimes that side character doesn’t need a trilogy. (I’m looking at you, Charles.)

💻 3. People do judge by your website

Even if your art is stunning, if your website loads like it’s from 2003 and your font looks like it belongs in a haunted doll’s diary… visitors will vanish.

🐕 4. If your dog walks across wet paint… that’s the new style now

Let’s just call it “canine-pressed texture” and move on.

💡 5. Creativity needs breaks

I used to think stopping was lazy. It’s not. It’s fuel. Walk in the woods. Breathe. Let ideas come back on their own.

I’d love to know—what have you learnt the hard way in your own creative path? Leave a comment or message me if you’re shy.

We’ve all got stories. Let’s swap a few.
