– KING-

The war room was heavy with tension as the scout entered, his face grim. The King sat forward, his golden eyes piercing, while the generals stood at attention. The council members lingered near the edges of the room, their hushed conversations ceasing as the scout began his report.

“Your Majesty,” the scout started, bowing deeply, “the situation is escalating rapidly. Shadowclaw packlands have become a hub for warriors. Their numbers are rising daily, with pack warriors setting up camps along the borders. Even rogue groups, who rarely align with pack wolves, are joining them. It’s unheard of.”

The King’s jaw tightened, his eyes narrowing. “What of their numbers?”

The scout hesitated, then continued, “Conservative estimates place them at two thousand already, and they’re growing. Some of the packs joining may not be fully aligned with Rowen’s goals but fear their destruction if they refuse. Shadowclaw’s message is clear, join or be destroyed.”

A murmur spread through the room, the gravity of the news sinking in.

“And Magnus?” one of the generals asked, his voice sharp.

“They are working together for now,” the scout said, his voice steady. “Magnus’s rogues are filling in the ranks, bolstering their numbers in ways the packs alone couldn’t. But…” He paused, glancing at the King.

“But what?” the King prompted, his tone cold.

“Their truce is a façade,” the scout said. “Both Rowen and Magnus are vying for the same goal: the throne. They’ll use each other to bring down the council and your rule, but their alliance won’t last. Once the council falls, they’ll turn on each other. It’s a matter of who strikes first.”

The King leaned back in his chair, his golden eyes blazing. “Rowen is no longer keeping his ambitions secret,” he said. “He’s letting the world know he plans to take the top spot.”

“And Magnus will wait until Rowen does the heavy lifting,” the scout added. “Then he’ll strike. The question is, how many more packs will join before that happens? Fear is a powerful motivator, and Rowen is using it well.”

The King’s hand clenched into a fist on the armrest of his chair. “Send out our own messages,” he commanded. “Reach out again to every neutral and allied pack still loyal to the council and to me. Make them understand the stakes. If we wait too long, there will be no line left to hold.”

“Yes, Your Majesty,” the scout said, bowing again before retreating from the room.

Silence followed his departure, thick and oppressive. The King’s gaze swept the room, his expression resolute. “The enemy is gathering their strength,” he said. “Now, we must do the same. This is not just a battle for the throne, it is a battle for the future of wolfkind.”

– TRAINING-

The training grounds buzzed with energy as Master Kerrick observed the team with his usual sharp eye. The grizzled warrior stood with his arms crossed, the faint scar across his cheek catching the sunlight. He had already assessed the team during their first session and had been both impressed and intrigued. The youngsters, though inexperienced, had shown remarkable fire and resilience. They lacked the polish of seasoned warriors, but their bond with their leaders gave them a strength Kerrick rarely saw in recruits.

Freya stood apart from the group, watching the others with a mixture of awe and hesitation. She had never trained like this before. Her powers, though impressive, leaned toward the mystical rather than the combative, leaving her feeling out of place among the others. Tobias, ever attentive, noticed her uncertainty and strode over.

“You’re doing fine,” he said quietly, his blue eyes softening as he placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder. “This isn’t about being perfect. It’s about learning.”

Freya managed a small smile. “I’ll try.”

Nearby, Daemon sparred with one of the royal warriors, his movements a blur of power and speed. Tobias watched him with a mixture of pride and determination. His own newfound power made him a force to be reckoned with, nearly on par with Daemon’s raw strength. They were a formidable pair, and Tobias knew they would need every advantage in the battles to come.

Kian and Bren were in the midst of their own sparring session, their youthful enthusiasm earning a rare chuckle from Kerrick. “They’ve got fire,” the old master said to no one in particular. “Rough around the edges, but that can be honed.”

“They’re loyal too,” Liam added, his tone thoughtful. “They’ll follow Tobias and Freya to the ends of the earth.”

Mira joined them, her sharp eyes scanning the grounds. “And they’ll make sure to keep us all laughing along the way,” she said with a wry smile, nodding toward Nathan and Finn, who were locked in a mock battle that had devolved into a playful wrestling match. Kerrick’s exasperated sigh only made them laugh harder.

“Discipline, boys!” Kerrick barked, though his tone held no real bite.

Helena trained alongside Zara, her movements careful and measured. She was mindful of her condition, though she hadn’t yet shared the news with anyone. Zara, noticing Helena’s restraint, matched her pace without comment. Their silent understanding spoke volumes about their growing bond.

As the training progressed, Kerrick called for a break. “Gather around!” he commanded, his voice carrying across the grounds. “You’ve all got potential, but potential alone won’t save you in battle. Today was about seeing what you could do…. testing your limits. Tomorrow, we start training.”

The team gathered around, sweaty but invigorated. The youngsters looked to Tobias and Daemon with admiration, their respect for their leaders evident in every glance. Freya, though still uncertain, felt a surge of determination. She wasn’t just a white wolf or a powerful being in a prophecy—she was part of this team, and she would do her part.

As they made their way back to their quarters, Tobias fell into step beside Freya. “You held your own today,” he said softly.

Freya glanced at him, surprised. “I didn’t do much.”

“You stayed,” Tobias said firmly. “And that’s more than enough.”

In the distance, Kerrick watched them go, a faint smile playing on his lips. “They’ll do,” he muttered to himself. “They’ll do just fine.”

– HELENA-

The team sat in the common room of their quarters, the light of the late afternoon streaming through the high windows. They had been training with Master Kerrick for a week now, and a rare moment of calm enveloped them, the sounds of the palace muffled by the thick stone walls. Mira sat beside Alaric, her sharp eyes scanning the room, while Tobias and Liam discussed the day’s training with Kian and Nathan, who were laughing over some light-hearted teasing from Finn.

Helena shifted uncomfortably in her seat, glancing toward Daemon. Her mate had been tense all day, and the secret she carried was becoming harder to keep. Mira had taken her aside a little earlier and pressed her to tell him.   Finally, she cleared her throat, drawing everyone’s attention.

“I have something to share,” she began, her voice steady despite the nervous flutter in her chest.

All eyes turned to her, and Daemon, sensing her unease, reached for her hand. “What is it?” he asked, his tone gentle but laced with concern.

Helena took a deep breath, her amber eyes locking onto Daemon’s brown ones. “I’m pregnant,” she said softly, the words hanging in the air like a spark ready to ignite.

The room erupted into stunned silence before being quickly filled with excited chatter. Mira was the first to leap to her feet, rushing to Helena and hugging her tightly. “You forgot to mention it’s twins,” she said with a knowing smile.

Daemon’s expression shifted from shock to sheer joy. He pulled Helena into his arms, his protectiveness already evident. “Twins?” he repeated, his voice filled with wonder. “You’re sure?”

Helena nodded, her smile softening as she leaned into him. “Mira heard their heartbeats.”

Freya, sitting nearby, clapped her hands together. “This is incredible,” she said warmly. “Congratulations, both of you.”

Tobias grinned, clapping Daemon on the shoulder. “Looks like you’re going to be busy,” he teased. “Better start planning now.”

As the group celebrated, Luke, who had been sitting quietly in the corner as usual, stood abruptly. The sudden movement caught everyone’s attention, and the room fell silent. Luke, the usually reserved and shy young fighter, took a step forward, his posture straight and formal.

“I have a request,” he said, his voice steady and clear, surprising everyone.

Daemon raised an eyebrow, his expression curious. “Go on.”

Luke squared his shoulders, his gaze unwavering. “I want to train as the twins’ personal bodyguard. They will need protection, and I want to be the one to provide it.”

The room was silent for a beat before Liam broke it with a low whistle. “Didn’t see that coming,” he muttered, a faint smile tugging at his lips.

Helena’s eyes softened as she regarded Luke. “You don’t have to….”

“I want to,” Luke interrupted, his tone resolute. “This team gave me a chance when I had no one. I owe it to you all, and to them.”

Daemon exchanged a look with Helena, his expression thoughtful. Finally, he nodded. “If that’s what you want, then I accept. But it won’t be easy.”

“I wouldn’t expect it to be,” Luke replied, a rare smile breaking across his face.

Helena reached out, placing a hand on Luke’s arm. “Thank you,” she said sincerely. “It means more than you know.”

The mood in the room shifted again, from surprise to quiet admiration. Even the other boys, Kian and Sean, looked at Luke with newfound respect.

Freya leaned toward Tobias, whispering, “He’s been holding that in for a while.”

Tobias smirked. “Looks like it. Good for him.”

As the group settled back into their seats, the bonds between them grew stronger, the shared moment a reminder of the trust and loyalty that held them together.

– MIRA-

Mira’s sharp senses had grown keener with each passing day, a result of her heightened powers and constant vigilance. She had begun to notice small, subtle inconsistencies among the palace staff….missing items, overheard whispers in hallways, and unfamiliar faces lingering in places they shouldn’t be. At first, she thought little of it, chalking it up to the sheer scale of the royal pack’s operations. But the unease gnawed at her, refusing to be dismissed.

Late one evening, as she walked back to the quarters she shared with Alaric, her ears caught the faintest sound of murmured voices coming from the kitchens. The tone was hushed, almost conspiratorial. Mira slowed her steps, her heightened hearing honing in on the conversation.

“Tonight. When the moon is highest,” a gruff voice whispered. “Make sure the supplies are ready.”

“What if we’re caught?” another voice replied, trembling slightly. “You know the punishment.”

“They won’t suspect a thing,” the gruff voice assured. “The commotion in the royal wing is enough of a distraction. Stick to the plan.”

Mira pressed herself against the wall, her heart racing. Supplies? A plan? The implications were ominous, and she knew she couldn’t ignore it. She waited until the voices faded before slipping away, her mind already racing with possibilities.

When she reached Alaric’s quarters, she found him seated at his desk, pouring over a map of the palace and surrounding lands. He looked up as she entered, his expression softening at the sight of her.

“Mira,” he greeted warmly, but his smile faded as he noticed the tension in her stance. “What’s wrong?”

“We might have a problem,” Mira said, closing the door behind her. She recounted what she had overheard, her voice steady despite the weight of her discovery.

Alaric’s jaw tightened as he listened, his blue eyes darkening. “Spies,” he muttered. “It’s not surprising, but it’s troubling. If they’re planning something, we need to act quickly.”

Mira nodded, her brow furrowed. “I don’t know who they were, but they sounded certain. They mentioned supplies and a plan for tonight.”

Alaric stood, his posture tense but controlled. “We’ll inform the King immediately. He needs to know there’s a potential threat from within.”

As they moved to leave, Mira hesitated, her gaze lingering on Alaric. “Do you think this has anything to do with Magnus or Rowen?”

“It’s likely,” Alaric said grimly. “They’d be fools not to plant spies here. The palace is the strongest defence against their plans.”

Mira’s fists clenched at her sides. “Then we need to stop them before they can do any damage.”

Alaric placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder. “We will. Together.”

They headed toward the council chambers, their determination unshaken. As they approached, Mira’s thoughts lingered on the shadows that seemed to creep ever closer. The palace, once a symbol of unity and strength, was under threat from within, and the stakes had never been higher.

For Robin – Blood Donor

Beneath the sky, I park and wait, A quiet vigil, a twist of fate. He walks inside, his heart so bold, To give his blood, his story told. And here I sit, with guilt’s soft sigh, For once I tried, and once did try. But body weak and rules so […]

By The Sea

As a child by the sea, I lived a game, In winters wild, where the waves would claim The promenade, with a roaring might, Chasing the shops in the fading light. I’d dare the fence, the wave’s retreat, A fleeting race on unsteady feet. Most times I’d win, but once […]

Twisted Life

Today, something twisted inside me. I rarely check the news—it’s too depressing, and I can’t stop the horrors happening—but today, I did. First story: Syrians fleeing their homes. Next: free pancakes in Manchester. Pancakes and death, side by side. We’re immune now, aren’t we? Bombings, mass graves, murdered children, all […]

A Journey Back to Writing

When I was a little girl, being raised by my grandparents was far harder than most might imagine. Grandparents are often thought of as the ones who sneak you sweets when your mum isn’t looking, or let you stay up past your bedtime. But mine? They were strict. Steeped in […]
